Around Town: Exhibit Ale

If you haven't experienced a growler shop, it's time to check out the best way to try craft beer.

We are lucky to have Exhibit Ale just down the road from us. It's becoming a little bit of a weekly tradition for us to go down on Friday night and sample what's new, get our fills and hang out with Jessie and Jessica, the awesome owners.

So here is how it works. You go in, choose your beer, buy a jug, and leave with your yummies. Okay maybe that was too simple. The growler shop works like this. They have a number of beers and ciders on tap. Exhibit Ale has 30 taps. Most are beers, but they usually have at least 1 cider available for people like me who don't really like beer. Jessie, the genius that he is, got the Lawrenceville city council to pass a bill that allows you to buy 4 samples a day for $5 (or 1 for $1.50 but since this is the Mrs. Shopswell blog, you know I am going to tell you that 4 for $5 is a better deal.)

Before you start with the, "Why would I need any samples?" line, here's the thing, you are about to buy 32 or 64ozs of beer you may have never tasted. I'm not that big into gambling with my taste buds. What happens when you hate it?

Once you do decide what you want, you choose either 32 or 64 ozs. That will determine what growler you are going home with. You will be buying the bottle, but in reality, you are just putting a deposit down on it. If you don't want it any more or never plan on going back, you can always return it for your money back. Trust me once you see the growler light, this won't be happening, but I digress. After its filled, they seal it all up and send you out home to start enjoying every last drop.

We love it. They know our names, remember our favorite selections and even know how old Mathilda is week to week. I love when shop owners go the extra mile to really get to know their customers. It keeps me coming back week after week. Just make sure there is always a cider on tap!

Tilly and the pumpkins

So one of the best parts of my pregnancy ended up being my "Birth Month Board" or BMB. Basically, (I plan to talk about them more in the future), we are just a group of women online, who were all pregnant and due in July. Over the months, we became really close and, honestly, true friends.

Today a few that were local to me decided to get together and meet IRL for the first time. We had a lot of fun at a pumpkin patch.

Tilly LOVED the hay ride. She laughed and cooed the whole time. I can't wait until she's a little older to really enjoy the ride!

Wordless Wednesdays

Welcome to Mamaland and the 21st century

Well its time for me to blog again. Mathilda is here. She is the most amazing gift and I want to share her with you. She arrived a little early and we can't be any more happy about everything about her!

With her arrived a need for a different way to reach the online world. We aren't a smartphone or iPhone family, so I ended up getting a handy little tablet to use while breastfeeding. The beauty of it is I'll be able to do a lot more blogging, starting now.

For now we'll start out slow to get back in the habit. I'll be doing wordless Wednesdays and a weekly recap. I hope to start telling you abt my favorite baby products and ways to get a swell deal on them.

I'll be honest that a I thought about abandoning Mrs. Shopswell and starting fresh with a new blog, but I will always be Mrs. Shopswell. I'm just on a new adventure.

Jellybean will be here soon!

Very, very soon! Since today is induction day, she should be here in the next 48 hrs or less!

Its been a long 9 months and I'm so anxious to meet her and kiss her and love her! Hopefully, I'll be able to use this to tell you about her and all the products that come in handy... but until then, I'll be getting ready to meet our little girl!

Just ordered our "Shower" invites. We aren't, as usual, doing the normal thing. We talked about a regular "girl" shower, but I want to have a big party. So we're having a BBQ/Pool Party.

My house isn't exactly ready for this, but I'm determined not to let the blogosphere/pinterest make me crazy. Nothing will ever be perfect and I have to accept this. Its my first step to happiness. I want to be able to have people over and enjoy their company without the craziness that goes through my head.

There are a lot of great bloggers out there that I've just had to stop reading. Its not because I don't love their designs, cause I do, I really, really do.... I just make myself crazy.

So instead, one Sunday in June, I'm inviting a whole bunch of people over to my house so that we can all celebrate Jellybean! She is the most important thing in our world now!

Register? Schemegister!

So I finally finished our registry for Jellybean! I say finished very loosely. It doesn't seem like you can ever be truly finished. Every time you think you've added the last item, someone suggests the favorite baby product or something you were in love with is out of stock or discontinued.

Jellybean's nursery will have an elephant theme. We chose elephants because JB shares a due date with my Great Grandma, Nana's birthday. Nana and her husband, Papa, lived in India for several years. She loved elephants. Their house was decorated in elephants. When we were kids, every gift or card we ever gave her was decorated with elephants. Of course, I'd choose elephants for our nursery.

Though it has made it a lot easier to find elephant products, elephants are WAY too popular right now. There were so many elephant products that it was easy to find things with elephant exclusive patterns. I didn't have to choose items with an elephant and other animals. I don't think that I am 100% happy about their popularity, but its okay, our elephant nursery will be the funkiest on the block!

I also registered for items like nipple soothers and breast pads. Butt paste and pacifiers. Diaper pails and swaddling blankets. There are almost too many baby items to choose from. I know I didn't add nearly as many items as I could have and I still feel like 80 items is too many. I'm swimming in a sea of registry overload!

What do you suggest I add?

20 Weeks: Half Baked!

So today is a big day for Our Jellybean! Half way cooked and in just another 20 weeks, will be making their debut to the world! I think a little ice cream will be in order this evening...

I can't believe I am so far along. I feel like we just found out. Three months ago we got to see our little one for the first time on the screen. The heart beating and flickering on the screen. It was amazing and made everything so real.

Its been a bumpy road, but I wouldn't give up a minute of it. I can't wait to meet our Jellybean!

Crazy Cravings!

Jellybean really does have a sense of humor! She really likes foods that I would never in my life crave or search out. Things that I have hated ALL my life! or foods that Daddy loves, but I don't really have a huge affinity for, like bread. Daddy loves bread. He wants it with every meal. I, on the other hand, like bread when its around, but don't really think about it. If its around, then I may have some, but I don't search it out. Until December when I couldn't get enough!

All of my life, I've hated tomatoes. Sure, I like ketchup and will eat some tomato sauce on Spaghetti or Pizza.

Then sometime in January, I suddenly needed to eat tomatoes. It started at Subway. I asked for 2 rows of tomato slices. They looked at me like I was crazy, but they did it and it was amazing!

Then it was buying tomatoes an eating them on sandwiches at home. Whether it was a burger or Grilled Ham and Cheese, it needed to have thinly sliced tomatoes on it.

Then today I was in the grocery store and I saw someone with bananas in their basket and suddenly, I needed bananas. I had to have them. I could taste them. So I bought a big bag of the yummiest organic bananas. But that's not it!

When I got home, I remembered that there we had cereal, not just any cereal, Banana Nut Crunch cereal. That I topped with two sliced up bananas. Yup, that's right, not 1 but 2 sliced up bananas on banana cereal. AND IT WAS AMAZING!

Now there are quite a few foods out there that I love, that others don't like or would think are absolutely disgusting, like liver and gizzards and collard greens. But there are quite a few things that others like that I don't, like kiwis and mangoes and blueberries.

What will Jellybean want next?

Diaper Bags

I knew from the beginning that I wanted a Vera Bradley bag to use as a diaper bag. They are roomy and have so many pockets. They can also be thrown right into the washing machine if they get dirty or puked on or WORSE!

I was all ready to watch for a sale and just get a pattern that I liked, but wasn't really concerned about which one. I wanted a pattern that was sophisticated but not overly girly. Then the new spring 2012 patterns came out. And I'm in trouble!

The new "Ellie Blue" pattern is sophisticated, isn't overly girl AND it has ELEPHANTS! It really can't be more perfect. I'm stalking eBay for accessories for cheap. Now its whether or not to get it monogrammed and what style to buy!

Are you a Vera Bradley fan?

19 Weeks: Mango anyone?

Only you aren't 8.5 ounces, you, Jellybean, are about 11 ounces. Daddy and I went to the anatomy scan yesterday and you were amazing! I'm going to post more about it soon, but I just wanted to check in and tell you how amazing we thought you were.

You were adorable and perfect and just what we wanted to see! We love you so much already, its hard to imagine being able to love you anymore than we already do!

What to buy for Baby?

If finding out you're pregnant wasn't overwhelming enough, having to shop for and set up a nursery really boggle the mind. The list of things you need is a mile long. The prices you have to pay make your eyes pop out of your head.

You really have to decide what is important for baby and what is really just a whim because it looks cool. Okay, really a lot of it looks cool. Have you seen the Rock N' Play? I want an adult sized one that I get to sleep in.

Or how about this Pink Pedal Airplane? Hey, Nanny Dani, I think I've found something for you to save up for!

These are just the icing on the cake! There are SOO many cool things like this! And don't get me started on the vintage things that are so awesome that I didn't appreciate or ever get as a kid. I have a laundry list of all those things that I want, just because I never had them.

But tell me Swell Shoppers, What do I really need to add to my list of items to buy for Jellybean? I know that my list is probably drastically different from the list I should have!

18 weeks: My little Sweet Potato

*(Okay, so this is the biggest Sweet Potato I've ever seen.
JB you will get bigger than this at some point, but not yet!)

Jellybean you are about 5.6 inches long and about 6.7 ounces now and keep on growing rapidly. Probably explains why I've finally gotten my appetite back. I haven't had any weird cravings this week, but I have made homemade french fries the last few nights.

I think that I'm feeling you move around, but I could just be mistaking you for gas pains. Boy, I've never burped so much in my life! What are you doing to my body!? Your bones are hardening, so I expect some good punches and kicks soon!

Your ears are now facing forward and are completely formed so you can actually hear me talking now. I need to start playing Dada and Counting Crows for you before Daddy starting pumping in the Steely Dan. I want to make sure you love GOOD music.

My 31st birthday is Sunday. My last pre-baby birthday. My birthday was always a really big deal to me and I always turned it into an event. This year, I'd just like a good night's sleep. You are making it hard for me to get comfortable.

I love you Jellybean! There are only 22 more weeks to go before we get to meet you. Next week, we get to find out if you are healthy and whether you are a boy or a girl. So exciting! I can't wait to continue this ride with you!

Pregnant and Handicapped

I never expected to get pregnant naturally because of PCOS, so this was a welcome surprise. However, for those that don't know, I was in a car accident (t-boned while going through an intersection) 17 months ago that crushed my left femur and pelvis and broke my right pelvis in multiple places. I spent 4 months in a chair unable to walk or put any pressure on my left side. Another 6 months just trying to get my left leg to start regrowing muscles so I could walk again. And the last 7 learning how to walk with a cane and do things for myself on my own.

I was already overweight pre accident, but the months of sitting and steroids made me balloon up. I see a MFM because of my weight, but also out of fear of how my pelvis is going to adapt to pregnancy and giving birth. I have a femoral rod and pelvic plate with a bolt attachment. My right pelvis never completely healed because of needing a side to put pressure on.

I'll admit that I'm starting to feel really overwhelmed and worried about giving birth and then caring for a baby by myself. I try practicing things like getting our of a rocking chair while holding a doll or carrying things while holding a doll, but nothing seems to work right. I have my husband and my mother lives with us after being my caretaker for so many months, but I want to be able to do this and feel like I'm being a mom.

I know I can't be the only one who's ever gone through this, but hormones and my love for Jellybean make it so pressing and daunting sometimes. I know that once Jellybean gets here, it'll all become second nature, but there is something about the long hours of the night that make you think and over-think all of these issues and fears...

The difference between the blogs...

As you might have noticed, there is both Mrs. Shopswell and Mrs. Shopswell at Home. I've been thinking about what to do with both of them for the last few weeks. I'm kind of torn. Mrs. Shopswell was always supposed to be a coupon/money saving blog. While, I'll always struggle at paying full price, my life has really gone in a totally different direction. I'm not saying that I'll never go back to that money saving person, who can't wait to share it with the world, I'm just not there anymore. We still coupon and save money, but it isn't the focus of our lives.

But at the end of the day, I'll always be Mrs. Shopswell. So I'm going to continue to blog as Mrs. Shopswell and use Mrs. Shopswell at Home for reviews and tutorials. So remember to follow both!

Well Hello Again...

When I started Mrs. Shopswell 3 years ago, I never saw my life going the way it has. A lot has happened, some good and some really horrible, but all together its our crazy life. We "moved" to Louisiana for a year. I was in a terrible car accident that left me relearning how to walk. We moved back to Georgia. I got knocked up. Yup, you read that right, I'm pregnant!

Being pregnant has made me want to start blogging again. I want to capture our life and Jellybean's life. I want to talk about what I'm learning about parenthood and raising a baby. I want others to teach me about things I would never have thought about. I want to talk about becoming kinda crunchy and letting my naked children run around the backyard like kids used to do.

AND I want to tell you all about it!
